Interested in a career in the sports business?
Would you like to turn your passion for sports into your dream job opportunity?
Would you like to see more diversity among sports executives?
The TeamBuilder Alliance is producing an important series of events called
Bridging the Gap-Facilitating Access to the Sports Business in major
markets across North America. Each event is designed to encourage
inclusive hiring practices in sports, entertainment and media. For each event, TeamBuilder Alliance is delivering:
Diversity Training For Sports Executives. During the day
portion of each event, TeamBuilder Alliance will conduct a two hour
diversity training session for senior sports executives.
Careers Workshop For Job Seekers. During the evening
portion of each event, TeamBuilder Alliance will hold a live,
interactive two-hour workshop for job seekers about careers in the
sports, entertainment and media. Senior executives will speak to
and network with job seekers.
How Do Participants Benefit?
By engaging industry executives who make team-building decisions, and
the diverse job seekers who are fighting for a limited number of "dream job"
positions, TeamBuilder Alliance is taking a holistic view of diversity. The
sports, entertainment and media companies that participate will benefit
from a clearer understanding of the legal and business justifications for
inclusiveness as well as from reaching a pool of talented women and
minority candidates. The job seekers that participate will leave with a
better understanding of the industry, a sharper focus for the kinds of skills
What is the Front Office Landscape?
In 2001-2002, the percentage of African-American professional level employees in the NBA and NFL was 17% and 14% respectively; while the percentages of African-American players were 78% and 65% respectively. During the same period, diversity in the top levels of management for minorities was particularly low. Overall, people of color comprise less than 10% of all team vice presidents for all major sports leagues. One reason for the lack of diversity often cited by executives within the industry is the inability to identify qualified female and minority candidates for front office positions.
Why is Diversity Important?
Inclusive hiring is not only the right thing to do, it can help sports and entertainment
organizations grow. The innovation and fresh perspectives brought by diversity are
huge competitive advantages for businesses in this particular industry. Clients trust
us to deliver the best, and the only way to meet that challenge is to deploy the most
inclusive talent identification process.
